Hunger is a huge concern in Haiti. Many people go without food for days.

Once, I saw a young child with a huge plate of rice and beans in front of him. I expressed to the principal at Port de Bonheur School that it was too much, she replied, "he hasn't eaten in days.

In Haiti, 1 out of 5 children are underweight. 1 out of 10 is acutely malnourished. 1 out of 14 Haitian children die before age 5.

Many children in Haiti show signs of malnutrition. A lot of children we photographed in May 2015 had orange hair, or orange colored roots which is a sign of malnutrition. It is hard for a child to fight off any illness or disease when they are so malnourished. A simple bacterial infection could be terminal.

It is also very hard for children to concentrate in school when they haven’t eaten in days. They set in school wondering when the next meal is coming.

With the help from donations, Least of These will be providing a hot meal each day for lunch. This is rare in Haiti schools, but necessary for health, education, and the future of the children. We will also be purchasing fish, vegetables, etc. from the locals. We recently decided to continue to feed the children lunches during the summer while school is on summer break. We don't want the children to fall back into the malnourished condition they were in prior to the lunch program.

We are also supplying the elderly with a food kit each week, and delivering food to the most poverty stricken people on the island.  

The Least of These Foundation does not withhold any administrative cost from your donation. 100% of your donation goes toward feeding the children.
